Illinois Man Dead, Another Injured After Two-Vehicle Crash

PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- One person is dead and another injured after a two-vehicle crash in southeast Missouri on Sunday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported the crash happened at 11:47 p.m. on July 21 at around the 25.6 mile marker along I-55. in Pemiscot County.

MSHP said Alphonso Savage, 51 of Chicago, Illinois, was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee south on I-55 when it hit the towed unit of a 2006 Chevrolet 4500, driven by a 37-year-old man.

A 64-year-old passenger from Jonesboro, Arkansas, was also in the Chevrolet at the time of the crash.

Authorities said Savage was taken to the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the Chevrolet had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.

MSHP reports this as the 39th death related to a crash in the Troop E area in 2024.
