Missouri woman dies after car drives off road

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- A woman died in a car crash on Friday night. 

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash involved only one 2020 Ford Escape from Jackson, MO. Officials responded to the scene at I-55 northbound near mile marker 105 around 9:20 p.m. on Friday. 

Investigators believe the Ford's driver, Justin D. Eaker, 45, drove off the left side of the road into a ditch. Eaker's passenger, Karen L. Bauer, 65, was reported dead on the scene by the Cape Girardeau County Deputy Coroner Scott Wren at 10:01 p.m. 

Authorities called an ambulance to bring Eaker to St. Francis Hospital. 

Officials report this is the 43rd crash for Troop # in 2024.
