UPDATE -- One driver is in a hospital in Jefferson County after a semi-involved crash on I-57 Saturday morning.Â
Illinois State Police say the crash occurred around 7:07 a.m. near mile marker 84. The crash shut down the road for a few hours, but it has since reopened. Police arrived on the scene to find the crash involved two semi trucks.Â
Police believe the first truck drove off the road and hit the other truck parked on the right shoulder. The driver of the parked truck had to be driven to a local hospital due to his injuries. The driver of the first truck was uninjured.
Officials do not yet know what cause the driver to exit the road.Â
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- I-57 is closed in Jefferson County after a crash involving a semi.Â
The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency (FCEMA) alerted locals of the closure at 9:15 on Saturday morning. The wreck occurred at the 84 mile marker on the northbound side of the road.Â
Officials say drivers are unable to get through this path and must divert off the highway at the Sesser exit. Crews urge drivers to avoid this path and utilize other routes.Â
An exact reopening timeline has not been given.
