WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- A woman suspected of taking items from an abandoned property is in custody after deputies used Apple Air Tags to find her.

Williamson County sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary report in the 1500 block of Route 37 in Marion around 12:01 p.m. Friday.

The victim told deputies that two Bostitch nail guns and a dish sponge were stolen from the residence. The owner was remodeling the building and suspected someone was coming to the property in the past week.

Deputies later found that the owner hid Apple Air Tags inside some of the stolen items. They also identified a female suspect captured in photos taken by a hidden trail camera on the owner's property.

Investigators used the homeowner's Air Tag information and tracked the items to a residence on South Third Street in Marion. When deputies arrived they found a Bostitch tool box on the dash of a vehicle in the driveway.

Deputies contacted the victim who triggered an audible sound from the Air Tag which investigators heard going off inside the vehicle.

A woman identified as Christie N. Schultz came out of the home and deputies say she matched the description of the female from the trail camera pictures.

Schultz told deputies the vehicle was her's and that she obtained the tool from an abandoned residence and took one of the stolen tools into her home.

Investigators later recovered two Bostitch nail guns and a dish sponge. Schultz was arrested and cited for burglary. She was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
