WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Officials caught a suspect on August 3 who they say was wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants.

According to information from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Dakota A. Holmes entered Williamson County from West Frankfort around 1:00 p.m. Officials say he was first spotted in the county at the intersection of Herrin and Collins roads.

Holmes was reportedly wanted on three prior warrants for the following charges:

  • Williamson County
    • Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
    • Criminal Trespass to a Vehicle
  • Franklin County
    • Methamphetamine Possession

Deputies say they received word that Holmes had a handgun in the car, was driving on a suspended license and was prone to jumping from cars during traffic stops.

At 1:27, Holmes reportedly committed the traffic stop that would lead to officials' traffic stop of his car. Holmes drove south into a convergence of law enforcement cars. Deputies say they managed to stop Holmes' car in a driveway along the 14000 block of Prosperity Road.

Holmes exited the car and allegedly told authorities his name was Cody. Deputies say they did not fall for the scheme and reported a glass pipe with residue and a bag with crystal meth inside the car. The loaded 22 caliber semiautomatic handgun was also reportedly found between the driver's seat and center console.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office says its deputies issued Holmes the following charges upon the arrest:

  1. Armed Habitual Criminal
  2. Unlawful Use of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon
  3. Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  4. Methamphetamine Possession
  5. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  6. Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer
  7. Driving While License Suspended
  8. No Valid Driver's License
  9. Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle
  10. Operating Uninsured Vehicle
  11. Disobey Stop Sign
  12. Improper Turn Signal

Deputies brought Holmes to the Williamson County Jail. He remains innocent until proven guilty in court.
