MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WSIL) -- Many from across the country are helping out with recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene washed ashore and created havoc for millions across several states.

Area businesses are also wanting to help out and are doing what they can to provide for those who lost everything.

This includes a local transportation company out of Murphysboro.

Kelley's Transport in Murphysboro is also collecting donations.

Lee Kelley is the owner of the company and is organizing a drive to help collect items to give to those along the east coast states.

Kelley hopes to fill one of his semis with non-perishable items like water, canned goods and clothing; all in an effort to help those in need.

"I want to help. It breaks my heart that they have nothing and I can walk in my house and get a drink of water; they can't. They don't have a home. They don't have a bed to sleep in. They don't have nothing but the clothes they're wearing," Kelley said.

Kelley is hoping to start a movement in the community and is hopeful area residents will help him fill this truck.

You can drop off supplies this weekend at the "I AM Java Coffee House" at 715 N. 14th Street in Murphysboro.
