POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (WSIL) -- Two people were taken to a hospital after a vehicle crashed into another vehicle and a man in the road in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department said on October 29, at 1:10 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the eastbound lanes of Pine Street Bridge.

Police said a 64-year-old man from Poplar Bluff was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram going east on Pine Street. At this time, a bale of hay fell from his truck. Police said he stopped his vehicle in the roadway and then got out to go after the bale of hay.

While the man was out of his truck, police said a 35-year-old from Poplar Bluff was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and crashed into the guard rail of the bridge, the Dodge Ram and the 64-year-old man.

Police said the man was pinned between the two vehicles until EMS and firefighters were able to remove him.

Both men involved in the crash were taken to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
