Sandbagging

BROOKPORT (WSIL) -- Volunteers donated their time filling sandbags in Brookport Saturday.

It came as a response to the Massac County Emergency Management Agency calling for action against future flooding.

Saturday's sandbagging also included a group with the Department of Corrections.

The sandbagging efforts are a precautionary measure for Brookport - as the water level for the Ohio River is at a high for this time of year.

Mark Cardwell, who's with the Army Corps of Engineers, says it's better to prepare now - especially knowing flooding has been an issue in recent years.

There will be an additional effort to fill sandbags Sunday as well. For those interested, the effort will take place at 12 p.m. at the Brookport Ball Park - located at 5th street and Pell road.
