HERRIN, IL (WSIL) - Summer camps continue to dominate our local sports coverage. On Tuesday, the News 3 cameras were at Herrin High School for the Lady Tigers basketball camp.

Herrin Girls Basketball holds annual skills camp

Campers ranged from first through eighth grade and learned about the game from the Herrin coaching staff. Herrin's Head Coach Jacob Emling hopes to get the most out of these young ladies this week. Campers were also coached from some players on the Lady Tigers high-school team.

Tuesday was the second of three days, and campers were busy at the home of the tigers. The camp focuses on the basics with an added focus on drills and game-like situations.

"We learned how to just shoot and dribble the ball below our waist," said camper Brynlee Fortner.

This relationship is one that benefits everyone involved and helps grow the game in our region.

"These girls look up to you, and they want to model after like your Caitlin Clark or Sabrina Ionescu," said Herrin Assistant Basketball Coach Jessica Creek. "They want to be like you and be good role models for them."
