Du Quoin Girls Track & Field wins SIRR Mississippi title

DU QUOIN (WSIL) -- Du Quoin girls track & field scored 210 points to capture the programs fifth ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois River-to-River (SIRR) Conference, Mississippi Division title and 4th in a row.

Du Quoin's Olivia Philips outsprints Anna-Jonesboro's Brodie Denny (2.20.79 PR) to win the 800 meter race in a winning time of 2:18 (PR) to now own the fastest 800 in the state. Phillips also won the 1600 meter race in 5:39.60 and Denny came in second at 5:53.06. Du Quoin's Lainey Miller was third with a personal record of 5:54.10.

Du Quoin's Jalyn Wood won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.48. Wood's teammate Delanie Dearmond finished right behind her for second place (17.69) followed by Pinckneyville's Kris Kreger for third (18.80).

Du Quoin has strong distance runners and we saw that during the cross country season. In the 3200 meter race, it was a one-two finish for the Indians. Alexis George wins in a personal best time of 13:41.21 and teammate Maddie Decker comes in right behind her at 13:48.40.

Carterville's Alecia Doyle won the 100 meter dash in 13.15. Du Quoins Grace Alongi was second (13.44 PR) and Nashville's Karmen Reynolds was third (13.46).

SIRR Mississippi Division Team Results:

  1. Du Quoin - 210 points; 2. Nashville - 152 points; 3. Sparta - 53 points; 4. Carterville - 48 points; 5. Anna-Jonesboro - 44 points; 6. Pinckneyville - 40 points.

Murphysboro girls track won their first SIRR Ohio Division title in 18 years with a winning score of 138 points.

  1. Murphysboro - 138 points; 2. Herrin - 125 points; 3. Massac County - 88 points; 4. Benton - 78 points; 5. Harrisburg - 67 points; 6. West Frankfort - 54 points.

High School Baseball Scores:

On Wednesday, Mt. Vernon and Marion completed their game from Tuesday and Rams win 4-3 in 14 innings. With the victory Mt. Vernon wins the South 7 Conference Championship.
