JACKSON, MO (WSIL) -- Jackson is 13-0 and only 12-1 Platte County stands in the Indians way of a perfect season and the school's first ever football state championship.
Jackson endured heartache last season when they lost to Carthage 27-21 in the Class 5 state championship. That hurt left a chip on the Indians shoulder.
Offensively Jackson average nearly 57 points a game and the defense has been stout too, only surrendering 12 points a contest. The Indians haven't scored less than 49 points all season, and they really haven't had a let down game. The players know what's at stake and they've had that mindset all season long.
"We have hardly done anything to get them focused, they've been a good group throughout, they've shown their maturity as we've went through the season, they've been real consistent in their effort in practice, in training and in games," Jackson Head Football Coach Brent Eckley said.
"You have to put all on the table, there's nothing you can take back from it at this point so you're going to put on the helmet, play as hard as you can because there is not another week after this and you can get banged up and hurt your body a little because you have all that time afterwards to recover," Jackson senior center Thomas Ruch said. "Some guys won't play again in college and they've got nothing to lose. It's all or nothing at this point."
"We just keep coming back every week like it's our first week and we just practice from the start of the week to the end of the week and just watch it all play out," Jackson senior wide receiver Ty Moran said.
