DU QUOIN (WSIL) � It will be the Mississippi versus the Ohio for the Du Quoin 2A Softball Sectional championship Friday as Pinckneyville and Harrisburg earned their spots in the title tilt with wins Wednesday.
Taylor Witges struck out 16 as the Panthers edged Edwards County 3-2 in the first semi final.Ìý Witges took a shutout into the seventh, but the Lions mounted a two-out rally scoring twice and putting the tying and go ahead runs on base.
Witges ended the threat and the game with what else…a strikeout.
Harrisburg shutout Trico 6-0 in the second semifinal.Ìý Essence Sandersâ€� third inning RBI single scored Mya King with the game’s first run.Ìý The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead an inning later.
A bases loaded walk and bases loaded hit by pitch forced in two runs for 3-0 lead.Ìý Karsyn Davis then singled home Madeline Rider to make it 4-0 Harrisburg.Ìý TheÌý Bulldogs added a couple of insurance tallies for the win.
Pinckneyville and Harrisburg will square off at 4:30 Friday for the sectional championship and a date in the Johnston City 2A Supersectional on Monday.
