CARTERVILLE, Ill. Residents across the WSIL-TV viewing area should prepare for the potential for severe weather, especially on Friday.

Tonight, thunderstorms are likely, particularly this evening. Some of these storms could become strong. The low temperature will be around 65 degrees, with winds shifting from southwest to lighter and variable overnight. There is an 80 percent chance of rain.

The main concern is for tomorrow. After a partly cloudy start, strong thunderstorms are expected to develop later in the day. These storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and there is a possibility of tornadoes. The high temperature will be around 85 degrees with gusty south-southwest winds. The chance of rain is 70 percent.

While there's a chance of isolated severe storms tonight, the more significant threat arrives Friday afternoon and evening. Weather officials say conditions are favorable for widespread damaging winds, and there is also a risk of large hail and strong tornadoes.

The unsettled weather pattern continues into the weekend and early next week, with more chances for showers and thunderstorms. Another period to watch closely for potential severe weather is Tuesday.

Residents are urged to stay informed of the latest forecasts and have a plan in place in case severe weather strikes.
