Weather Alert

Rainy Wednesday, brief change to wintry mix this evening

  • 0

WSIL -- Pack the umbrella and rain boots this morning, wet weather is moving in from the south and west. Rain is expected to become widespread through the morning.

Temperatures are mild to begin, with readings generally in the upper 40s and lower 50s, but a cold front is approaching from the north and west.

Behind the front, winds will shift out of the northwest and temperatures will fall back into the lower 40s by the afternoon.

As temperatures continue to slip, rain may begin to mix with sleet and a few snowflakes, especially in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri.

Overall, road and ground temperatures will likely remain above freezing, so wet roads are generally expected. Into the early morning hours Thursday, it is possible a bridge or overpass becomes icy, but this will likely be isolated.

Precipitation will shift to the south through much of the day Thursday, but a second storm system bubbling up from the south will bring more rain early Friday morning.
