BIG GRANTS V

MURPHYSBORO (WSIL) -- Another local business has shared with News 3 its plans for a grant they'll receive from the state of Illinois.

Those grants are called BIG grants or Business Interruption Grants. They are part of the Pritzker Administration's plan to help small businesses across Illinois.

Oasis Skin and Wellness Center owner, Lilly Cook, says she appreciates her $10,000 grant.

She says her main challenge during the pandemic has been retaining staff.

Cook says replacing her four wellness experts and maintenace positions has been difficult.

She says the problem she's working to solve now is managing her clients anxieties about coming in to the spa and providing enough PPE for everyone.

"The ever-changing support that we're offering to our clientele to make sure that they feel safe when they come here is the biggest challenge right now, and I feel like we're doing a good job with that," she said.

Cook says she's looking to use the funds to purchase more ventilators and virtual resources as well as working on providing more touchless services, like her new relaxation station.
