New COVID-19 cases in Franklin, Union, Williamson counties

(WSIL) -- New COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday in southern Illinois.

The Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department announced three new positive cases.

The three new cases are:

  • A male in his 70s from Franklin County
  • A female in her 60s from Williamson County
  • A female in her 20s from Williamson County

The health department says the individuals acquired the virus through community spread and are each at home in isolation.

To date, there have been 30 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Williamson County and 9 confirmed cases in Franklin County. Of these cases, 13 have recovered in Williamson County and 5 have recovered in Franklin County.

Southern Seven Health Department also reported three new cases of COVID-19 in Union County.

The health department says a man in his 20s, a man in his 40s, and a woman in her 50s have tested positive.

Currently, Southern Seven is reporting 40 confirmed cases and no deaths.

  • Hardin County: 1 (1 of 1 recovered)
  • Johnson County: 4 (2 of 4 recovered)
  • Massac County: 4 (3 of 4 recovered)
  • Pope County: 0
  • Pulaski County: 17 (6 of 17 recovered)
  • Union County: 11 (4 of 11 recovered)

On Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 2,253 new cases of COVID-19, including 92 additional deaths.

Currently, is reporting a total of 50,355 cases, including 2,215 deaths, in 96 counties in Illinois. The department of public health says, within the past 24 hours, labs have processed 14,478 specimens for a total of 256,667.
