66-year-old in custody in connection to dozens of dogs found in poor condition

PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- UPDATE: The McCracken County Sheriff's Office said they took David Howery into custody on Saturday afternoon.

ORIGINAL: Authorities are looking for a 66-year-old after they said they found dozens of animals in poor condition after serving a search warrant at a home.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Office started investigating a case involving animal cruelty and torture on March 31. The sheriff's office said this led them to a home in the 9000-block of Woodville Road where they served a search warrant.

Investigators said they found 18 dogs in the home living in deplorable conditions, with one later euthanized due to the poor conditions.

The sheriff's office said the home had crates stacked on top of each other from the floor to the ceiling with urine and feces on the lower crates.

Law enforcement also said the home had fleas and rodents in there and the animals needed medical treatment.

A total of 32 dogs were reported as victims in this case.

Authorities said they are seeking David Howery, 66, in this investigation. They are asking anyone with any information on his whereabouts to call them at 

All animals were reportedly taken from the home by members with the McCracken County Animal Control and then taken to the McCracken County Humane Society.

The McCracken County Humane Society was said to be in need of the following items in regards to housing these animals...

  • Sheets
  • Blankets
  • Towels
  • Blue Dawn dish soap (original Dawn brand only)
  • WET Pedigree dog food
  • DRY Purina dog food
  • Gallon jugs of water
  • Paper towels
  • Financial donations to McCracken County Humane Society
  • Medical bill donations to Cummings Veterinary Clinic
