CHRISTOPHER, IL (WSIL) -- Residents in Christopher kick off the first ever Bearcat Bazaar at Dennison Memorial Park Saturday afternoon for a fundraising event benefiting the CZR Junior football and Cheer League.
Several dozens made their way out to Dennison Memorial Park today where a line of vendors are taking part in the two-day event.
Christopher's Junior Football and Cheer League is a self-funded organization, and while registration fees are collected, they never turn a kid away over a family's inability to pay, says CZR-JFL head football coach Kenneth Wilson.
Music, food, games and just about every type of craft is on sale at the Bazaar. Wilson say Saturday's turn out is impressive and supports a program that develops confidence in kids on-and-off the field.
"It's very inspiring to see people come out and spend their hard-earned money on today's youth," says Wilson. "There are a lot of kids that are --get left by the wayside, and hopefully with peoples' generosity we can help bring some of those into the fold and get what they need."
Funds raised will support team members, the Bazaar continues Sunday from 10 until 4 p.m. and incudes a church service at 11. Vendors taking part in the event have all donated give-away baskets, which are for another Bearcat Fundraiser taking place in October.
