MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- It was an unnerving moment for one young business owner who was robbed at gunpoint while he was carrying out an act of kindness for his next-door neighbor.
13-year-old Corbin Frick of Marion took all the right actions, and those actions may have saved his life.
Frick was at a neighbor's home blowing away leaves Wednesday afternoon when he said two males got out of a gray 4-door vehicle. One of the males pulled a gun out and demanded him to empty his pockets.
"I was just making sure I didn't get shot because it was two of them and the second one had his hands in his pocket. I'm pretty sure I could get the gun away from the first one, but I didn't want to take any chances with the second one," said Frick.
Corbin said he did as they asked, and the pair only got away with his brand new phone. Once they got back into their vehicle, Frick went inside his home and called 911.
"I just hoping they could get here as soon as possible and making sure the criminals didn't come back."
Once officers arrived, he described the robbers as African-American and in their late teens, but he said the officers told him they could not pick up one of the suspects because he changed his appearance.
"They can't go accusing him of doing that because honestly, you just can't go and accuse someone of something if you're not 100% positive that it was them. Me personally, I'm pretty sure it was them," said Frick.
Frick said he isn't going to let this incident intimidate him. The following day he continued with his business, Corbin's Outdoor Services, right after finishing up his homework.
"Hopefully, we find them and they get what they got coming to them, and hopefully, they learn from their mistake," said Frick.
