19-year-old seriously injured, faces charges after ATV crash

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (WSIL) -- A 19-year-old was seriously injured and faces charges after an ATV crash on Wednesday evening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) reported the crash happened at 4:45 p.m. on October 23, roughly five miles south of Poplar Bluff along County Road 459.

MSHP stated Austin Shepherd, 19, was on a 2023 Canam Outlander when the vehicle went off the road and overturned.

Shepherd was air-lifted to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment.

At 5:15 p.m. on October 23, MSHP stated Shepherd was arrested but released for medical. The charges listed on an arrest report were Driving While Intoxicated, Operating Vehicle Without a Valid License, Unlawfully Operate ATV on Highway Without Properly Mounted Triangle and Unlawfully Operate ATV on Highway Without Properly Mounted Bicycle Flag.
