POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A 39-year-old faces kidnapping and assault charges after being accused of holding a female against her will for two days.

According to a probable cause (PC) statement, a Poplar Bluff peace officer responded to a liquor store in the city of Poplar Bluff for a report of an assault on December 16.

When the officer got there, the PC statement said a female told the officer she was held hostage for two days at her home and accused Floyd Williams of hitting her with a sledgehammer and punching her.

Williams was arrested and taken to the Butler County Jail where he faces charges of kidnapping, armed criminal action, domestic assault and resisting arrest.

Williams was scheduled for an initial appearance at the Butler County Courthouse on Monday.
