Cape Girardeau teen charged in bike trail assault case

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Authorities responded to a report of an assault on the Cape LaCroix Bike Trail on May 13, 2025, around 6 p.m.

Officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department said they found the victim, who told them a male had tackled her and demanded sexual acts. She also told police she fought back, striking him in the groin, causing him to flee.

Police said the victim suffered minor abrasions from the attack. Officers soon apprehended the suspect, they identified as Noa Wonnell, 18, of Cape Girardeau.

Wonnell faced charges of attempted rape and Class E felony assault from the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office. He remains in custody on a no-bond warrant.
