MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- A domestic disturbance in Mt. Vernon led to a standoff early on Wednesday morning.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said their deputies responded to a call at 2:30 a.m. at 14504 North Old Union Lane, where 19-year-old Chance G. Cruise was accused of firing a gun multiple times before barricading himself inside his home.

Officers with the Mt. Vernon Police Department, along with Troopers with the Illinois State Police also reported assisting the sheriff's office at the location.

A High Risk Team also were called in to the scene. The sheriff's office said efforts to communicate with Cruise were initially unsuccessful.

Detectives obtained a search warrant, and after breaching the residence, they used a drone to locate Cruise, authorities stated.

"After contact was made, Cruise began cooperating and surrendered without any further incident," a press release from the sheriff's office said.

Cruise was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.

Cruise was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
