Juvenile arrested in stolen vehicle investigation in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- A 15-year-old faces charges after police say he was involved in a stolen vehicle report they are investigating.

The Carbondale Police Department said their officers responded to the 600-block of West Baird Street on October 14, at 12:40 a.m. for a stolen vehicle report.

Police used the license plate reader technology and said they found the stolen vehicle in the 500-block of East Main Street.

When officers found the vehicle, they said they were approaching it when several juveniles got out and started running away.

One of the juveniles was a 15-year-old which police say they caught after a brief foot chase. This juvenile was reported to have had a loaded gun as well and was arrested for charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Motor Vehicle Theft and Resisting a Peace Officer.

The juvenile was later released to a parent of his.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
