PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- A Paducah man is facing charges after he was caught on video injuring a kitten.
Victor Mylas Jeffers was taken into custody Monday afternoon.
Police say the investigation began Sept. 23 when video captured by Paducah Housing Authority security cameras showed a man throwing a kitten approximately 30 feet in the air and letting it land on a concrete sidewalk.
According to investigators, the kitten was taken to the Humane Society and died there the following day.
On Monday, detectives were driving near North 6th and Boyd Street when they saw a convertible with a man standing up dancing in the back seat.
During the traffic stop, detectives recognized the backseat passenger as the man seen in the video.
Jeffers initially gave police an incorrect name, then later claimed he threw the kitten because it bit him. Paducah Police say the security video disputes that claim.
Jeffers, 27, was arrested on charges of torture of a dog or cat with serious physical injury or death, theft of identity of another without consent, and on warrants charging him with contempt of court and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence).
Jeffers was booked into McCracken County Regional Jail.
