POPLAR BLUFF (WSIL) -- A wanted suspect in a fatal December shooting has been apprehended in West Virginia.

On Dec. 1, 2020, Poplar Bluff police responded to a home on Begley Street for a home invasion. Police say Stacy Gipson and Christopher Gilmore entered the home under the ruse to purchase narcotics from the home.

During the incident, while attempting to rob Kevin Sanders and Adriana Lundy, investigators say Gipson shot them both. Sanders later died from his injuries.

A large amount of marijuana and money was found inside in the home.

Gilmore was quickly apprehended by local authorities, but Gipson was believed to have fled the state.

On December 9, 2020 the police department asked the U.S. Marshals Service to assist with the apprehension of Gipson, who was possibly at his mother's residence in Charleston, West Virginia.

On Jan. 4, 2021, Gipson was spotted walking near a business in Charleston, WV.

U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest him, but he ran on foot. After a short pursuit, Gipson was placed under arrest.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley says the following agencies helped capture Gipson:

  • The Criminal Investigation Division of the Poplar Bluff Police Department
  • Missouri State Highway Patrol
  • Butler County Sheriff’s Department
  • U.S. Marshals Service in Cape Girardeau
  • West Virginia authorities
