Two arrested in connection to robbery incident in October in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- Two people are in custody facing charges in connection to a robbery which took place on October 28, in Cape Girardeau.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department said they took into custody both Khamani Rutherford, 19, and Tristen Mackins, 20, both of Cape Girardeau, in the past week.

Police said on October 28, at around 7:45 p.m., officers responded to the 600-block of S. Spring Street for an armed robbery report. There police said a victim told them a dark colored Chrysler 300 pulled up and two people got out and pointed guns at him (the victim) and he was then robbed of his backpack with $200 in it.

On December 6, officers took Rutherford into custody. On December 10, they took Mackins into custody.

Both were charged with a Class A felony of robbery 1st degree and felony armed criminal action. Both are being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

The investigation is ongoing and police said more charges are expected.
