WEST FRANKFORT (WSIL) -- Officials in West Frankfort need your help finding the person, or persons, who vandalized the city's park.

"This practically destroys the whole park as far as us being able to upkeep, and it's dangerous to kids who walk through this."

Park Director Don Rhine says he's never seen this amount of damage in the ten years he's been working at the Frankfort Community Park Aquatic and Activities Center.

According to Rhine, overnight Wednesday into Thursday, someone drove a pickup truck on the grassy area in the park, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

He says repairing the damage will force them to hold off on other projects at the park.

"We just put in a brand-new lighting project."

Brogan Rains, a lifeguard at the aquatic center, is lending a helping hand. He says residents in the area rely on this center to be safe.

"Can't believe somebody can come through and trash up the park like that. It's a community park," says Rains.

Rhine says surveillance video shows the vandals spent hours in the park.

If you have any information about the incident, you're asked to call the West Frankfort Police Department at (618) 937-3502.
