CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Chalk-Eclipse brought in hundreds of junior high and high school students from across the region where they took part in creating artwork which highlights the solar eclipse image.
Roughly 400 students came out to ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois University on Friday morning, creating large-scale artwork on the sidewalk in Faner Mall.
This artwork will be on display for all who come to the area to witness and take part of the solar eclipse event and activities.
“I think it’s really cool that it’s gonna get more recognition from all of the people coming into the town," Art Education Nation President Izzy Burkhardt said. "There’s a lot of schools in the area that don’t have art programs, and I think this is a great way to get art out there and advocate for art being important for students and being important for just the whole world.
Chalk-Eclipse was just the start of the ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois Crossroads Eclipse Festival. You can find a complete list of events at SIU this weekend by visiting our Total Solar Eclipse section on our website at .
