Illinois colleges team up to help feed the needy during the holidays

SPRINGFIELD, IL  - Several Illinois Community Colleges are teaming up this holiday season to help those in need.

These colleges collected more than 91,000 individual non-perishable food items for local campus and community food banks.

The top five schools that collected the most food between October 14- November 30 were:

John Wood Community College (Quincy), Elgin Community College (Elgin), College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn), Waubonsee Community College (Sugar Grove), and Shawnee Community College (Ullin).

Shawnee Community College collected 2,346 items for this food drive, placing fifth in the state (out of 48 community colleges). We are the only 'downstate' college in the top five.

The non-perishable food items collected during the drive will directly benefit many on campus or community food pantries, ensuring that many have access to meals when they need them most.
