National Adoption Day

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) -- National Adoption Day is coming up on November 23, however, one local official says this was an amazing day after nearly 30 children were officially welcomed into a new home in Williamson County.

The Williamson County Courthouse were met with families who were there to legally adopt a child on Friday morning.

The families and children were welcomed with treats, smiles, princesses and loving families.

National Adoption Day is held every year and is a national effort to try to raise awareness of more than 100,000 children in foster care across the nation.

Acting Deputy over Permanency Wendy Ingersoll says it was an amazing day.

"For these children that are being adopted today, they have come into our foster care system because of abuse or neglect, and so they have been placed in the relative or traditional foster care home, Ingersoll said. "So the foster parents are there to help them heal through this time, and if we cannot reunify the family, we look at alternative goals such as adoption as we鈥檙e celebrating today.鈥

This is the sixth year Williamson County hosted an event like this.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a licensed foster parent can reach out to the Department of Children and Family Services at 618-993-7100.
