WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL)-- With the chance of winter weather on the way, local officials want to ensure our region is prepared.
Our team spoke with Williamson County EMA Director Brian Burgess. He says his team is watching this storm system as it develops.
Local crews, along with the county's transportation department, have been out working to salt their roadways and bridges.
Burgess says for winter weather, it's always best to be ready for emergencies.
“There are going to be moderate travel impacts in the morning commute, but by the time everybody's headed home, I would think that the roads will be very accessible, Burgess said.
He says when it comes to traveling, people should always be prepared. He says there are several safety tips people can follow.
“Increase your following distances, increase your braking distances, be aware of what the conditions are, and know that bridges and overpasses freeze before the roadways do. So just take extra precaution and slow down and give yourself some extra time, Burgess said.
Our team also heard from IDOT officials.
They say they're restocking their salt supply and making sure their equipment is ready.
Officials say they'll activate their teams once the storm system arrives.
