IDNR invites public to June events

MAKANDA, Ill. (WSIL) -- There are several events taking place in coordination with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Giant City State Park which is coming up in the month of June.

The programs range from youth fishing to kayaking and documenting nature.

Here are the events taking place in June...

Kids Fishing Programs at Lake Murphysboro State Park

  • Free family fishing program for kids ages 5-12. All supplies will be provided.
  • Program dates...
    • Tuesday, June 3rd, 9-11am
    • Thursday, June 5th, 9-11am
    • Tuesday, June 10th, 9-11am
    • Thursday, June 12th, 9-11am
    • Tuesday, June 17th, 9-11am
    • Thursday, June 19th, 9-11am

“You Too Can Kayak� Program at Lake Murphysboro State Park

  • Saturday, June 7th or 21st from 10 a.m. - Noon.
  • Join the Giant City State Park Naturalist at Lake Murphysboro State Park for a fun morning of a casual paddle around the lake.
  • This is a free program with kayak safety, techniques, water opportunities for wildlife observation.
  • Guided experience for 16+.

Nature Journaling Fun Program at Giant City State Park

  • Friday, June 6th from 9 a.m. - Noon.
  • Kids ages 8-12
  • Observe insects, small critters, and wildflowers outdoors. Then, journal with words and drawings.
  • All materials provided.
  • Free program
