JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- A new gun lock program has been announced in Jackson County which will go out to the community and promote community safety.
The Jackson County State's Attorney Joseph Cervantez announced on Wednesday they will be providing gun locks for individuals through local community organizations and to be distributed at local events.
The state's attorney's office in Jackson County purchased more than a thousand cable gun locks through the Illinois State Police Asset Forfeiture Fund.
The gun locks are designed for families to secure guns separate from ammunition.
Community organizations may request the gun locks through the Jackson County State's Attorney's office by calling 618-687-7200, visiting their or by stopping by the office at 1001 Walnut Street, in Murphysboro.
