MARION, Ill. (WSIL) --Â Construction on the Oasis Sports Complex began a few month ago. Locals from the area we spoke with said they are starting to notice and are getting excited for what it will bring to the region.
Oasis in Marion is building a $30 Million Dollar Sports Complex.
The Field Manager of Stadium Operations is Ralph Santana. He shares what the complex will be used for.
"We made it a multi-sport complex. So we can be very diverse. We just didn't want to hit one side of the spectrum when it comes to sports, we're just hitting about everything," Santana said. "On all these complexes, we can play softball, we can play baseball, we can play football, we can play soccer, we can play lacrosse and we can play flag football."
Rachel Stroud is the Communications and Marketing Director for the City of Marion. She explains what the city hopes for the future of the complex.
"Were really excited to have this complex in the heart of our city its going draw teams from across the Midwest and hopefully broaden our horizons even further than that from national to international teams to come to our city to play ball," said Stroud.
Tucker Rolape is a local multi-sport athlete. He told us how he felt about the complex coming to the area and how it will help him.
"I feel like a home field is good because it makes you feel like you are playing for the town but we will probably get a lot of tournaments in," Rolape said. "I have never had a home tournament I play travel ball for Marion and I have never had a home tournament since I've started and I feel like, yes, it will make you improve."
Santana also added that this sports complex will not only bring opportunities for local athlete, but, also revenue, tourism and job opportunities for the area.
The complex is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2025.
