SESSER, Ill. (WSIL)-- Residents in Sesser will be soon be seeing some upgrades to their water system after a recent grant.

The city announced they'll be getting $710,000 through a grant with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

We talked to Sesser's Mayor Jason Ashmore. He says this money will be used to replace the waterlines which have not been updated and he says he is excited for the next round of improvements.

"I was extremely excited. It's always great getting free money," said Ashmore. "While you think it is free money, it's really not because it is tax payer money and this alleviates the budget on our community. These pipes need to be replaced sooner or later and it really needs to be sooner."

Ashmore says these improvements will benefit both residents and businesses in town. He also thanks all the people involved which helped Sesser receive the grant.
