MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WSIL)-- With snow in our region, some towing companies have been busy removing cars from the side of roads.Â
We talked to Rick's Towing in Mount Vernon. The company says they had a busy weekend helping cars and plowing roads.
They had their trucks ready to go with snow in the forecast on Monday as well.
The company’s owner Daniel Heck wants to remind people it's safer to take your time when it's snowing.
“So really you just need to make sure that your tires are inflated. And then with all the construction that we have on 57 and 64, you know, the weather changes that too, Heck says. “But you need to just plan a little bit more.
Heck says after all the snow they also had to deal with possibly icy roads.
“Once the snow got done flying and it was heated a little bit, then we had a bunch of black ice that we dealt with from about 11 or midnight till six o'clock in the morning till the sun came back out. So if you could just, just spend a little bit more time preparing, Heck said.
He says a lot of people they helped on the roads were traveling home after Thanksgiving dinner festivities. He says some said they were in a hurry to get back to work or school.
If you do happen to get stuck in the roadway make sure you have your hazard light on. Then contact roadside assistance or call a local towing company for help.Â
