Volunteers needed for winter storm cleanup in southern Illinois

CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Multiple agencies in Illinois are partnering together to help with disaster relief after an ice storm recently hit southern Illinois.

This includes the City of Carbondale, with a partnership between Mayor Harvey and the Illinois Department of Human Services, along with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), the Illinois Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and Laborers' Local 773.

The agencies are looking for the public's assistance to help those affected with debris removal.

Volunteers will be helping with a variety of tasks, including using chainsaws and carrying limbs and debris.

Cleanup efforts include Jackson, Williamson and Saline counties, from January 24 - February 7.
