FRANKLIN CO., IL (WSIL) -- Illinois State Police say a West Frankfort man is dead after a hit and run crash on Interstate 57 Friday morning.
Investigators say it happened around 4:50 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Benton.
State Police say a tractor trailer rear ended a Hyundai Elantra driven by James J. Bean, 70, of West Frankfort. Bean lost control and was thrown from his car as the vehicle flipped.
State police say the tractor trailer did not stop and they are still searching for the driver.
Bean was pronnouncd dead at the scene.
The Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Zone 7 and the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) will continue the investigation.
