Jackson County buckles down on dangerous driving

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Jackson County officials focused on road safety this Memorial Day Weekend. 

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday it gave out 18 tickets over the holiday weekend for Reckless Driving. These efforts came as a part of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign. 

“Through the Memorial Day enforcement campaign, we helped make Illinois roads safer and spread the word that seat belts save lives,� said Sgt. Ronald Stanton.

The 18 tickets covered the following six charges:

  • Fugitives apprehended -- 2
  • Suspended/Revoked License -- 1
  • Uninsured Motorists -- 4
  • Speeding Citations -- 2
  • Motor Vehicle Registration Suspended
  • Stop Sign Violation -- 1

The Illinois Department of Transportation is still hosting this campaign via federal funding for highway safety.
