1 dead in Butler County, Black River Coliseum open as shelter

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (WSIL) -- One person is dead after severe weather struck Butler County on Friday night.

The Butler County Emergency Management Agency confirmed one person died from the mobile home park area along Highway PP, just west of Poplar Bluff. A tornado was reported to have hit the area.

Authorities said there was also damage in Poplar Bluff, including a supermarket, a kindergarten facility, along with other businesses and structures. Photos show damage to multiple businesses.

The Black River Coliseum will be open for anyone who needs shelter for the night. Red Cross is also expected to respond on Saturday to help.

The Butler County EMA also said there were multiple injuries caused by the storm.
