MT. VERNON (WSIL) -- Mount Vernon resident Dan Lovin received the Bill Mehrtens Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge (FOP) in February.
“For a man who's not a police officer, Dan Lovin has done more than just about anyone to support and comfort our law enforcement professionals year after year,� said FOP State Lodge President Chris Southwood. “Dan's dedication to the men and women who protect and serve is truly a life well lived.�
Lovin has been the chaplain for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Mount Vernon Police Department and the FOP State Lodge Chaplain for more than 20 years.
He has been recognized with the National FOP Chaplain’s award, is credited with saving several officers who were contemplating suicide, and has performed numerous crisis interventions and stress counseling sessions.
