CARDWELL, Mo. -- Two people are dead and another seriously injured after two vehicles crashed into each other on Monday evening.

Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the crash happened along US 412 about two miles west of Cardwell.

MSHP said Janice Orr, 68 of Jonesboro, Arkansas, was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion and reportedly pulled into the path of a 2018 Ram Pickup truck along US Highway 412.

Two people were in the truck at the time of the crash and both were not wearing a seatbelt, according to a crash report.

Orr was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunklin County Coroner. The driver and passenger of the truck were both taken to hospitals outside of the state.

The passenger of the truck was Harley Jones, 23 of Steele, Missouri. Jones later died from injuries. The driver of the truck is a 24-year-old from Caruthersville, who was taken to Regional One Health in Memphis with serious injuries.

Both vehicles had total damage and were towed away from the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports this is the eighth and ninth death related to a crash in 2024 for the southeast Missouri area.
