CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Authorities are investigating what they deem to be a suspicious fire at a residential building, for a second time.

The Carbondale Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mike Rishel said their crew was called out at 5:11 p.m. on Monday to the 900-block of West Sycamore Street for a fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they saw flames and smoke on the outside part of the building on the rear portion of the structure.

Both fire and police responded to the fire.

Rishel said fire crews were on scene for about an hour an a half.

Rishel said this is the second time this building caught fire recently.

Back in early August, this building caught fire.

Police deemed the August fire as arson and arrested a suspect.

Mylena G. Fruits, 35 of Carbondale was charged with Arson, Criminal Damage to Property by Arson and Criminal Damage to Property back in August.

Rishel said this latest fire on Monday is deemed suspicious as well.
