December 31st evening forecast with Meteorologist Nick Boynton
Carterville Ill. (WSIL) -- Tonight things are getting colder across the area and that is a trend that will continue for a long while. Low temperatures tonight look to get down in the upper 20s for many areas. Bring those heavy coats out and keep them out as temperatures will only get colder throughout the week. Highs go from the low 40s Wednesday to the lower 30s by Saturday. Low temperatures go from the upper 20s Wednesday morning to the teens by early next week.Â
Biggest feature in the weather department we are tracking is the potential for some winter weather as we head towards Sunday into Monday of next week. One thing we certainly have available is cold air. The storm track is one of the biggest question marks as of right now. Confidence is growing that we see a big precipitation event for both Sunday and Monday but the location of the low is key. If it moves just to our south then much of the area would deal with snow, sleet and or freezing rain. If it tracks just to our north than we all could be dealing with a lot of cold rain that may end as some snow.Â
Regardless, details are still foggy at the moment but stay informed throughout the week as we get a clearer picture of the exact location of the low. This has potential to disrupt travel across the area at the start of our work week next week.Â
