Unsettled Weather Expected This Memorial Day Weekend

  • 0

CARTERVILLE, IL - After a stretch of sunny and seasonably cool days, we will need to gear up for a soggy shift just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Thursday brings more beautiful weather with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s. A light breeze from the northwest may gust up to 18 mph during the day before calming tonight under mostly clear skies and lows dipping into the upper 40s. Friday continues the dry and sunny trend, though slightly cooler with highs around 71.

However, changes begin Friday night as moisture from a Plains storm system moves in. A chance of showers will develop after midnight, becoming more widespread and persistent through Saturday and beyond. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and a high near 69. Rain chances rise Saturday night, with thunderstorms becoming likely—especially late into the night.

Sunday is shaping up to be the wettest day of the weekend, with widespread showers and possible thunderstorms continuing through Sunday night. Temperatures will hover in the upper 60s. Memorial Day itself won’t bring much relief—showers and storms are likely throughout the day with highs in the low 70s.

Rainfall totals between 1 to 3 inches are expected across the region, with the potential for locally higher amounts—especially in southeast Missouri. This could lead to isolated flooding concerns. While severe storms are not the main concern right now, heavy rainfall and repeated downpours could impact outdoor holiday plans.
