Carterville (WSIL) -- That wind is whipping today! Wind advisories remain in effect for our entire area until 5AM Tuesday. Expect wind gusts to continue to be more frequent as the day continues with 40-50 MPH wind gusts likely by the evening.Â
The cold front gets closer by the evening commute and that is when the rain will arrive and pick up in intensity. The combination of heavy rainfall, isolated flooding, and very strong winds will make for a treacherous evening commute for many.Â
The potential is also there for some sporadic power outages with wind gusts this high. Winds, even getting more gusty as the rain starts, will help to potentially topple some small trees which in turn can cause power outages across the area this evening. Be prepared by making sure all your devices are charged up just incase.Â

Expect generally 1-2 inches of rainfall areawide this evening with the best chance for isolated flooding in the bootheel of Missouri where the rain could start earlier and last longer.
