(WSIL) -- Rain is expected Saturday to kick off an extended holiday weekend. Showers will start to move in early in the day with widespread rain expected by afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible in SEMO in the afternoon and evening. Some of the storms could produce strong gusty winds. Locally heavy rain appears to be the biggest risk in southern Illinois.
Showers and storms will stick around into Sunday morning but should clear the region before afternoon. Monday looks drier and warmer for those that have the holiday off to enjoy. I will have the latest forecast updates on News 3 WSIL.
