Woman found dead in house fire in Jackson County

JACOB, Ill. (WSIL) -- A house fire in Jacob, Illinois, claimed the life of a 49-year-old resident in March.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies arrived at a home on 60 West Jacob Road to find it fully engulfed in flames on March 15, 2025. Several local fire departments worked together to extinguish the blaze.

The sheriff's office said a resident of the home, Amy Hickam, 49 of Jacob, died in the fire.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Fire Marshall are investigating the sequence of events which led to the fire.

Agencies including the Murphysboro Fire Department, MPS Fire Department, Tower Rock Fire Department, Ava Fire Department, Campbell Hill Fire Department, Jackson County Ambulance Service, Illinois State Fire Marshall and Jackson County Coroner's Office are assisting in the investigation.
