MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. -- One person is dead and a 5-year-old injured after a single-vehicle crash occurred in Paducah Tuesday morning.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said it happened at 8:49 a.m. in the 4000-block of Benton Road in Paducah.
After receiving a 911 call, deputies responded to the scene where they found a vehicle suspended in the air, held up by a chain-link fence.
At this time, the sheriff's office said there was an adult and a 5-year-old female that were still in the vehicle.
The two were then both sent to the hospital shortly thereafter and transported by Mercy Regional Ambulance.
The adult was identified as 39-year-old Roger Hyatte who passed away from injuries sustained from the crash.
Authorities said the 5-year-old was then air-lifted to an out-of-state hospital.
The sheriff's office said the vehicle was going west on Benton road when it crossed into oncoming traffic, into a ditch and then up an embankment. It finally came to rest in a fence. Authorities said speed was believed to be a factor.
Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the incident.
"The MCSO asks that you keep the Hyatte family in your prayers," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Reidland Farley Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance, McCracken County Public Schools, and Prestige Towing assisted in the investigation.
